Chapter Fourteen

Adrienne and Blake arrived at the royal estate a little earlier than intended. Both of them were excited about having a girls’ day. Plus, they got to meet the royal babies. Gianna had given birth a little over three weeks before to two healthy baby dragons—one boy, one girl.

Vanessa answered the door with a bright smile. “Hello!”

She stepped aside for Adrienne and Blake to enter. Adrienne drew Vanessa into a hug. “We’re a little early.”

Closing the door, Vanessa waved them to go farther inside. “Don’t worry about it. Reagan’s got you beat. She was here at sunrise.”

“I was not!” Reagan waved at them from the sofa. “I waited an hour to make sure Gianna was awake.”

Gianna laughed, entering the room from the kitchen. She had one of the twins in her arms. “She did message me every ten minutes until I answered.”

Reagan shook her head and made a circle motion with her finger beside her head, saying Gianna was crazy. Adrienne giggled, already feeling better for being there.

The day before had pushed her mental strengths. She hadn’t been prepared for the amount of power she possessed. It terrified her, while at the same time, she feared that she may become addicted to the power lingering in her mind. All morning she wanted to test the power, call to it so she could feel the magic high she had the day before.

Coming over to spend the day with friends was a perfect distraction for her.

Adrienne moved closer to Gianna and admired the sleeping baby in her arms. She was wrapped in a pink blanket. Along her temples and her forehead were silvery-white scales, indicating Voss was the father. Azar’s scales were dark gray. “She’s beautiful.”

Gianna’s smile made her face light up. “Thanks. This is Serena Zale, named after Voss’s first mate. Her brother is Kellan Azar, and he has Azar’s scales.”

Adrienne lifted her gaze to Gianna’s. “You named her after his ex-mate?”

“Serena was also Azar’s sister. She was Voss’s first love and was respected and loved by her people. It keeps her memory alive. I know it’s odd, and Voss said it wasn’t necessary, but I love the name.” Gianna stared down at Serena. “We’ll call her Rena for short.”

“Aww, well, that’s perfect then. And to have a boy and a girl.”

Gianna kissed her tiny bundle on the head. “Yeah. The guys said they didn’t care who fathered them, but when they were born and we saw the scales, they were overwhelmed with emotion.”

“I bet.” Adrienne lifted her hand and gently stroked Serena's hand. She flexed out her fingers and that was when Adrienne saw the slight shimmer over her skin, just like her dad had.

The cries from Kellan drew their attention to Brenda, Gianna’s mom, entering the great room, cradling the baby in her arms. Brenda smiled widely. “Aren’t the baby dragons adorable?”

“They are.” Adrienne sat on the sofa. She scanned the room, and her attention fell on Vanessa who was watching her.

“How are you?” Vanessa asked.

Adrienne shrugged as Blake sat next to her and leaned into her.
